Location: Farmers Home Hotel, Northam, WA
A hot air balloon flight over the Avon Valley is a must-do Aussie Bucket List experience when visiting Perth, Western Australia. Enjoy the spectacular views from a balloon basket and experience this ancient sport in Northam, the centre of the picturesque Avon Valley. Depending on the wind direction, the tour operator will choose launch locations to try to give you the best views at sunrise that the day can offer.
Liberty Balloon Flights give you the finest experience of free flight in a balloon in the whole of Australia, hands down. View the sunrise over the horizon with pilots who have been flying for decades. This is the full experience of a balloon flight with the personalised service only small groups can receive.
Breathtaking views and safety are assured with pilots who have been flying for over 28 years, not only in WA but also, for close to 20 years, in Melbourne. With the added experience of flying up and down the Andes, Patagonia, Mexico, the UK and many countries and cities around the world, your pilots will make your flight as varied as the winds allow on your chosen day. We like adventure and we make it SAFE. We call this "The Peaceful Adventure". Views across the Avon Valley in a morning you will never forget. Participate in the oldest form of aviation, a hot air balloon flight. Breakfast is included after the flight!
What To Expect
From the meeting point inside the Farmers Home Hotel, in the township of Northam, you will jump into our vehicles and we will drive you to our launch site. The experience starts early, at around 05:00 am or earlier, but the tour operator will contact you in the evening before your flight to confirm the exact time. The aim is to be airborne just before dawn, hence the early start. Of course, dawn is at different times as the months' progress so expect to meet a little later in the middle of Winter. Once arrived, after a quick check-in, you will jump into the vehicles and be driven to the launch site.
There are many locations used to take-off, always depending on the wind direction on the day. In case you don't know, hot air balloons just float, so expect to simply drift in the breeze. We tend to "fly-in" to the valley so we will drive upwind to take off. Ballooning is a hands-on experience and there are simple tasks for those who'd like to participate in setting the balloon up for the flight and there is certainly a job for everyone when we need to pack the balloon away after landing. The flight itself will last about one hour and your pilot will use the winds at different heights to navigate to the most appropriate landing site. At the end of it all, you will be driven back to Northam for a well-deserved breakfast.
For those who choose the transport from Perth and back option, the meeting location is the car park near Crown Casino, corner of Glenn Place and Victoria Park Drive. The drive is just over an hour and you will be returned to this location after the flight.
Important Information
Guidelines
- Children older than 6 can fly. Children, in ballooning, means small people aged between 6 and 12 years of age. 13 years and older are considered adults, the same as with airlines.
- Stay safe and get the most out of your visit by preparing for natural hazards and other outdoor risks. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your care.
- The pilot will decide not to fly if the conditions are not suitable. This can be because it is either too windy, too unstable or because of low clouds or rain. Balloon flights are cancelled quite often and it is best to have some flexibility if at all possible. If your flight is booked you can easily reschedule for another day of your choice.
- If a flight has been cancelled by the operator due to weather conditions the passenger is entitled to re-book at no extra charge for a period of 12 months. If the passenger has booked to fly three times or more during this 12 month period, LBF will endeavour to honour the booking for a further 6 to 12 months, depending on location.
- Hot Air ballooning is an outdoor adventure activity using fields that can be uneven for take-off and landing. It is important that you dress appropriately using practical clothing and sturdy footwear. The fields can be wet and muddy, so city shoes are not advisable.
- Ballooning is very much a “hands on” activity and we welcome your help although it is not mandatory. Saying this, the tour operator will always need some passengers to lend a hand. You may get a little dirty on doing these tasks so please dress appropriately. Bring a change of shoes and socks with you if necessary.
- While the flight is always gentle, landings can on occasions be bumpy and the basket may drag and lay on its side with passengers lying horizontal for a short time. Please ask if you have any concerns.
- Wear suitable footwear and ensure to wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the elements.
- Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
- Pricing may change at anytime at the discretion of the supplier (prior to purchase). Click the 'book tickets' link on this page for the most up to date pricing and information on this experience.
