Hobart & Southern

Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania, located at the southern end of the island. It’s known for its charming mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. You can explore the city's waterfront, visit the famous Salamanca Market for local food and crafts, or take a trip to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) for an exciting art experience. Just outside of Hobart, you'll find Southern Tasmania, with stunning landscapes like Mount Wellington, where you can enjoy breathtaking views and hiking. The area is also home to beautiful beaches, national parks, and charming towns like Richmond.

The weather in Hobart and Southern Tasmania is cooler than much of Australia, especially compared to northern cities. In summer (December to February), the weather is mild, with temperatures usually ranging from 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F). This makes it a great time for outdoor activities like hiking, sightseeing, and visiting the beach. However, the weather can change quickly, so it’s a good idea to bring layers and a jacket, especially in the evenings when it can get cooler.

Winter (June to August) is much colder, with daytime temperatures usually between 8°C and 14°C (46°F to 57°F). At night, it can drop close to freezing, and snow is common in the higher parts of the region, making it a great time for skiing and snowboarding in the nearby mountains. Winter is also the wettest season, with more rainfall, so it’s helpful to bring a raincoat.

The best time to visit Hobart and Southern Tasmania is during the warmer months of summer and spring (September to November) when the weather is pleasant for outdoor adventures and exploring the region’s natural beauty.
