Overview

Highlights

Chinaman's Pool and Picnic Area is a must-see natural bucket list attraction and popular swimming hole located at Marble Bar in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia.

Spanning the Coongan River, the Jasper creates a stunning backdrop and sets the scene for a beautiful picnic spot. Enjoy the tranquil scenic charm of this oasis, which provides some respite from what is known to be the hottest town in Australia. The Marble Bar Pool A Class Reserve attracts an abundance of wildlife.

Enjoy listening to the calls of the surrounding birds and soak up the magnificence of this pristinely-rugged landscape. Geology enthusiasts will enjoy the spectacular outcrops and appreciate the chance to see some of the oldest Archaean Rocks in the world.

The Marble Bar Pool is located just a few minutes’ drive from the town of Marble Bar adjacent to Chinaman's Pool, three hours’ drive south of Port Hedland. Both the Marble Bar and Chinaman's Pools are located in an A Class reserve and the removal of rock can attract an AUD$10,000 fine.

The watering hole below the Bar is a popular swimming area for locals. Both the Marble Bar Pool and the nearby Chinaman’s Pool are suitable for swimming and picnicking. The latter was named after the Chinese market gardens which were once established here by Chinese migrants to the goldfields.
