Highlights

The Franklin is one of the best known of the many rivers that run through the Wild Rivers National Park. A walk along the banks of the Franklin and through cool temperate rainforest will give you an idea of the beauty that lies within the heart of this wild river wilderness. Those travelling on the Lyell Highway between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge will cross this iconic river around 60 kilometres east of Queenstown.

The Franklin River Nature Trail has picnic tables, toilets and excellent walks through stunning rainforest to the Franklin and Surprise rivers.

  • National park and camping fees apply for Tasmanian National Parks. Check the parks website for bookings and/ or further details.
  • Weather conditions in Tasmania can change quickly and frequently, especially in alpine areas. Snow, rain, wind and sun are all possible at any time of the year, and bushfires can occur between October and March.
