All About

Jamala Wildlife Lodge

Overview

Jamala Wildlife Lodge, located within Canberra's National Zoo and Aquarium, offers a unique blend of luxury accommodation and immersive wildlife experiences. Established in 2014 by the Tindale family, long-time Canberrans dedicated to conservation and education, the lodge aims to inspire guests towards wildlife preservation through close-up animal encounters and educational programs.

The lodge features three distinct accommodation options, each providing an intimate connection with various animal species:

  • Shaka Lodge: This African-inspired lodge houses seven individual rooms and suites, including a unique suite with its own shark tank. Guests can enjoy a stunning lounge and dining area, pool, spa, and tropical gardens.
  • Giraffe Treehouses: Six magnificent suites within a private enclosure overlook the Molonglo River. Giraffes linger on one side of your suite, while friendly deer and alpacas roam on the other, offering guests a unique opportunity to interact closely with these animals.
  • Jungle Bungalows: Five luxurious individual suites adjoin various animal enclosures, allowing guests to be just a heartbeat away from lions, tigers, cheetahs, or sun bears.

Each accommodation is designed with bespoke African fixtures, lavish king beds, climate control, complimentary Wi-Fi, and premium amenities, ensuring a comfortable and immersive stay.

Guests at Jamala Wildlife Lodge are treated to exclusive zoo tours, providing up-close encounters with some of the world's most endangered species. The experience includes afternoon tea, sunset canapés and drinks, a three-course gourmet African-inspired dinner, and a freshly prepared breakfast. Dining often takes place in unique settings, such as the lodge's dining cave adjoining the white lion enclosure, offering an extraordinary backdrop to meals.

The lodge's integration with the National Zoo and Aquarium underscores its commitment to conservation. Profits from the lodge support various local, Australian, and worldwide animal conservation charities and endangered species breeding programs. This dedication ensures that guests not only enjoy a luxurious stay but also contribute to meaningful conservation efforts.

In summary, Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers an unparalleled experience where luxury meets conservation. Guests can indulge in opulent accommodations while engaging with wildlife in a manner that fosters appreciation and support for animal preservation. Whether feeding giraffes from a private balcony or dining beside lions, a stay at Jamala promises unforgettable memories intertwined with a profound commitment to the natural world.
