Overview
Highlights
Killen Falls is one of several waterfalls in the region and a beautiful place to visit when in the Ballina area .
Surrounded by foliage that drapes itself over the damp rock walls, this spot will have you feeling like you are in your own hidden paradise as you listen to the crashing waterfall.
Killen Falls Reserve is located on Killen Falls Drive, Tintenbar, New South Wales, about a 20 minute drive from Ballina, off Friday Hut Road. Open dawn until dusk, please note parking is limited and swimming is not recommended due to varible water quality.
Killen Falls is home to one of the last standing remnants of the big scrub rainforest. The big scrub rainforest once blanketed the Northern Rivers before the cedar-getters cleared most of this forest, and it is significant to the region so it is very important that you respect the area and take your rubbish home with you.
The Killen Falls viewing platform is a 660 metre return walk. The base of the falls is a 1km return walk from the car park area. The walk is a grade 3 bush walk, so bush walking experience is recommended as the track is steep and can be slippery in some parts.
Please stay on the marked track, stay safe and protect our ancient rainforest.

Important Information
Guidelines
- Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for the most up to date information.
- Always enjoy waterfalls from trails and marked viewing points. Do not climb over barriers as cliff edges and slippery surfaces may cause injury or death.
- Only swim where permitted. Don’t jump from cliff edges into water bodies.
- Swimming near or under waterfalls can be dangerous due to strong currents, submerged hidden rock ledges and other dangers. The force of a waterfall can be incredibly strong and unfortunately, many people have drowned. Follow warning signs and take caution.
- Ensure you observe all safety signs. Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
- Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring Australia.
- Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
- Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
- Please do not feed the wildlife.
