Manngarre Rainforest Walk
Home | Kakadu National Park, NT
Overview
Highlights
Follow the Manngarre (Marn-narr-ay) Walk through monsoon rainforest and along the East Alligator River in the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. The walk comprises three interconnected loops ranging from 600 metres to 1.5 kilometres in length. Follow the path through rainforest to an elevated viewing platform that overlooks the river.
For more information about the surroundings, you can join the guided walk that departs from the information shelter at the boat ramp on the East Alligator River on Fridays. The Manngarre Walk is graded easy and takes about one hour for the longest loop.
These walks may be closed due to weather conditions - ask if the walk is open at the Bowali Visitor Centre near Jabiru before setting out.
The surrounding area has strong indigenous heritage. Aboriginal people set up camp here because of the diverse foods available from the East Alligator River, the Nadab floodplain, the woodlands, and the surrounding stone country. The Manngarre Walk is located in the East Alligator region within Kakadu National Park, and is about a 3-hour drive from Darwin.

Guidelines
- Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
- Ensure you observe all safety signs, and be aware that whenever you are near water in the park, there is a risk of crocs! Kakadu has Crocodile Management Zones to minimise risk to humans. Even in these zones you should be cautious. Crocodile warning signs and Crocodile Management Zones are not found everywhere.
- Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring the Northern Territory.
- Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
- Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
- Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
- National Park fees and camping fees may apply. See parks website for more details.
- Do not feed the wildlife.
- Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but memories.
