Overview

Highlights

The ancient labyrinth of the Mimbi Caves holds many hidden secrets, not only of the Devonian Great Barrier Reef that was formed over 350 million years ago, but also of one of the oldest surviving cultures on Earth. Amongst the striking limestone formations, you’ll see some of the best preserved fish fossils in the world, and an extensive collection of Aboriginal rock art.

Make the 90-minute drive south-east of Fitzroy Crossing and join the Girloorloo guides on an insightful two and a half hour tour of Mimbi Caves, starting with a walk between towering karst cliffs, stopping to taste bush tucker and traditional medicines. From the cave entrance, the Gooniyandi people will guide you by torchlight, revealing the speleothems, stalagmites, shawls, flowstones and sparkling calcite crystals, rock art and Dreamtime stories of this extraordinary subterranean world.

Mimbi Caves is 100% Indigenous owned and operated.

Important Information

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the local visitor information centre for the most up to date information.
  • Stay safe and get the most out of your visit by preparing for natural hazards and other outdoor risks. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your care.
  • The walk into the caves is uneven and while the guides will provide some assistance, you will need to be reasonably confident on your feet. In the caves the light can be poor and in some places non-existent. Those suffering a fear of closed spaces should be mindful of this.
  • Wear suitable footwear and ensure to wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the elements when outside exploring.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
  • Entry fees may change at anytime at the discretion of Mimbi Caves, check their website for the most up to date information.
