All About
Victoria Park Lake
Highlights
Victoria Park Lake in the heart of the city of Shepparton is a tranquil, picturesque area popular with visitors and locals for walking, cycling, picnics, fishing, bird watching and outdoor games.
The Victoria Park Lake precinct was formerly a swamp and grazing paddock which was reserved as a public park in 1900 and named Victoria Park in 1901 after Queen Victoria. The former Borough Council developed the lake in 1929 for recreation purposes including rowing, motor boats, canoes and swimming. The park also provided bowling and croquet facilities and also incorporated a hockey field, all of which have been relocated.
A number of areas within the park are named after former Shepparton identities including McGuire’s Reserve, John Pick Playground, Con Palling Reserve, Riordan Reserve, and Harry Pick Playground.
In recent years, Greater Shepparton City Council has undertaken extensive lake redevelopment and continues to update community facilities as part of an adopted Victoria Park Development Plan. Victoria Park covers an area of 43 hectares.
